客体永恒性（object permanence） 一译“客体永久性”。皮亚杰理论术语。儿童在生命的头两年内形成的外界客体不依自己的知觉而永久存在的观念。即当客体从视野中消逝时，儿童知道该客体依然存在，并未消失。
皮亚杰及其后的一些研究者发现，处于感知运动阶段早期的婴儿，还不能把客体与自己的动作区分开来。当客体从其视野中消逝后，便停止注视或把目光转向其他物体。用幕布把儿童正在玩的玩具遮盖住，他也不会去找，好像客体已经不存在了。
8个月～12个月的婴儿开始能够寻找被幕布遮盖住的玩具。随运动协调能力的发展，儿童常在感知运动发展的第五阶段（12个月～18个月）获得客体永恒性。它的获得是感知运动阶段智力发展的一个重要指标和成就，是儿童以后认知活动发展的基础。
客体永恒性的作用
客体永恒性是儿童在感知运动阶段的最主要的认知概念。在此阶段的儿童的主要认知结构是感知运动图式，儿童借助这种图式可以协调感知输入和动作反应，从而依靠动作去适应环境，让儿童可以从一个仅仅具有反射行为的个体逐渐发展成为对其日常生活环境有初步了解的问题解决者。
婴儿的客体永恒性一般出现第9-12个月大时，该认知对与儿童的思维发展具有重要作用，父母可以根据此来判断儿童是否发展了恰当的认知理念，时刻关注儿童思维的发展。
